I use to be a ‘Cardio Queen’. No, it didn’t come with a sparkling crown on top of my head, but it did keep me working out more and seeing less results. As a personal trainer, the majority of women I do meet, are still wearing the ‘crown’. They come to me frustrated that they work out 5 times a week, still eat the same diet but are noticing weight gain and lack of body shape. Over the last ten years or so, research has proven that weight training is extremely beneficial for women. Yet, most women still shy away from resistance training for a variety of reasons. The number one reason being, they don’t want to bulk up and look like a man! YOU WON’T GET BULKY! Unlike men, women typically don't gain size from strength training, because compared to men; we have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy. You will, however, develop muscle tone and definition. YOU WILL LOSE FAT! As your lean muscle increases so does your resting metabolism and you will burn more calories all day long? Generally speaking, for each pound of muscle you gain, you burn 35 to 50 more calories each day. YOU WILL BE STRONGER! It is so empowering to not depend on others to help you with specific chores. When is the last time you lifted that bag of water softener salt? Weight training can increase a woman's strength by 30 to 50 percent by just doing moderate training. If you still believe that lifting weights is just for men or the young at heart then you are missing out on the greatest most effective way of losing weight, and changing the shape of your body. Women who lift weights look smaller as muscle is denser than fat. Muscle is active tissue, so it consumes energy. Fat requires less energy. What does this mean? The more muscle you have...the thinner you look and the more you can eat! GREAT INCENTIVE!!!

"MUSCLE DOESN'T KNOW AGE"!
Wow.. that's good to know! The weights are very intimidating though. Never know how to go about it!
ReplyDeleteI definately am someone who's afraid of lifting weights, only because I don't have any idea which exercises to do, how many reps, at what weight, etc. I'm open to it, just oblivious!
