8 Tips for moms of Glasses Wearing Toddlers!

Some of you already know that my wonderful Son wears glasses. He was only 16 months when we discovered that he needed them! Having a toddler who needs to wear glasses is a big transition. Recently my busy little boy snapped his glasses right in half. Look closely at the picture below and you will be able to see my fix with the hot glue gun. It was then that I thought, perhaps a list of tips for parents who have yet to experience this would be useful. With the help of another momstown Guelph mom I have compiled the below list!

1. Make sure they fit well. Buy frames that fit their small face and go back and have them adjusted over and over again if you have to. When they fit well they don't slip down their noses or fall off when they run or look down.
2. Think about getting a warranty (remember the hot glue) "We have LOVED having a warranty... are on our 3rd or 4th full replacements in the past year and a half with no charge." (quoted from momstown Guelph mom)
3. Have a place they ALWAYS go when they are taken off. Make sure kids understand that even if they just want a break from them for a few minutes they have to put them up.
4. Keep lens cleaner with you all the time. They get dirty quick!
5. Other kids are fascinated by your child's glasses. Explain that NO ONE else gets to touch them.
6. At first supervise every second they have them on! It only takes a second for them to snap an arm off or chew off the nose pieces They will be really curious about them at first. (both have happened to me)
   
7. Start slow and keep the kids busy while they are starting to wear them. (The local indoor playground worked well for me)
8. At first take them off for car rides or any other time you can't get to them quickly. While they are still curious and very aware of their glasses they will take them off and 'experiment' with them. (refer to #6)
