Christmas Post #3 - Visit the Local Donkey Sanctuary of Canada

The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada

About the Sanctuary

Since 1992, The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada has been a refuge for donkeys, mules and hinnies who have been neglected or abused, or who can no longer be cared for by their owners.

We are a not-for-profit charity, funded entirely by private donations and corporate sponsorships of events. At present, 75 equines (donkeys, mules and hinnies) reside at our main farm, and 30 are in care in our approved foster farms.

We have a small dedicated staff group and 40 hard-working, committed volunteers.

We are open to the public from May through October on Wednesdays and Sundays, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 4 special Christmas Open Days: Dec 1, 8th, 15, and 22nd. Hot chocolate and cookies made by our volunteers will help you stay warm! The donkeys are very cute in their fuzzy winter coats.

Donkey Day, our largest open house and fundraising event, is the 2nd Sunday in June; in 2014, Donkey Day will be on June 8th. There will be musical entertainment, food vendors, a KidZone, silent auction and more. Our newest event is PACE for the Donkeys, a 5k run/walk through the trails and fields on the farm. Stay tuned for more details on both through our website.

People of all ages love coming to the tranquil beautiful Sanctuary Farm and meeting the gentle, social donkeys. Please come and pat or groom animals in the barnyard, visit over the fence with others who enjoy a nice ear scratch, and shop in our Long Ears Boutique for the perfect donkey gift. For the summer months, there are lovely trails to explore and picnic tables by the pond for all to enjoy.

Parking, store and grounds are accessible for wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
Admission is by donation.
