One of our regular
monthly events at momstown Guelph is Little Scientists.
This month’s theme is The Desert, which is fitting since this week has felt like living in the desert.

Our experiment this month
was Ice Cream in a Bag.
We started out by putting 1 cup of half and
half cream, 2 tbsp of sugar and ½ tsp of vanilla in a ziplock bag.
We then filled another ziplock bag ½ full of
ice and added ½ cup of sea salt (rock salt or kosher salt also work, table salt
can work, but the bigger the granuals the better.)
We added salt to the ice to slow the melting
rate and increase the freezing rate.
The
smaller ziplock bag was added to the large one and the shaking began. The kids let the adults shake, but they ate
the ice cream. Shaking the bags turned
the ingredients into ice cream.
Toppings
were added and the ice cream was a success.
